Avoid Halloween Cavities

Posted .

This is a time of year where it’s incredibly easy to get lazy with your oral health habits, eat a ton of candy, and just relax. However, doing that is basically asking cavities to form in your mouth.

A cavity can put a big damper on the rest of the holiday season, which is why our team here at Grand Trails Dental in Spring, Texas put together this piece of advice to help you and your family avoid cavities and get the most out of Halloween and the following holidays.

Vigorously rinse your mouth with water after eating candy. Then, you should brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and an abrasive toothpaste 30 minutes later. It would also be a nice benefit if the toothpaste had added fluoride to help fortify the tooth enamel.

If your son or daughter doesn’t want to brush their teeth, you might want to try buying them a new toothbrush. It might even help to slip the new toothbrush into their candy bag as a gentle reminder.

Flossing after brushing and rinsing vigorously with antiseptic mouthwash can be a nice added bonus for cleaning residual candy particles from between teeth and along the gumline.
